Solo Runner Info

START TIME

7:00 am on race day (ALL solo runners)

COURSE CLOSE

6:00 pm (sunset) on race day

COURSE TIME LIMIT

6 pm or 11 hours (i.e. a 13 minute 12 second per mile pace)

After 6 pm, solo runners will receive a finishers medal but THEY WILL NOT RECEIVE AN OFFICIAL FINISH TIME. In past years, we made exceptions to this rule.  We will no longer make exceptions since it encourages slower runners to be on the narrow, winding, unlit roads after dark.  This is not acceptable to the race organizers or local public safety officials.

TRANSPORTATION TO THE START

Solo runners have the option to take a coach bus to the start line for $15. The shuttle will depart the parking lot at Stone Harbor Resort promptly at 5:30 am on race morning. If you are not staying at Stone Harbor Resort, please park in the city’s structured ramp directly across the street from the hotel. CLICK HERE for a map. The shuttle will arrive to the start line at Gills Rock by 6:30 am, well before the 7:00 am start time. A member of the Fall 50 staff will have a manifest listing the passengers. Please note that this is a ONE WAY shuttle so non-runners (family/friends) should not ride along unless they plan to find some other way back to Sturgeon Bay.

PACKET PICK UP

There are two opportunities to pick up race packets:

Friday at The Draft Haus from 4 pm until 8 pm

Saturday at the start line – The Shoreline Restaurant in Gills Rock from 6 am until 6:59 am

GEAR TRANSPORTATION

Solo runners may check in gear during packet pick up on Friday at The Draft House or on Saturday at the start line in Gills Rock. There will be large bins with identification labels indicating which of the nine rest stations along the course route or the finish line each one will be delivered to. Solo runners may drop bags with their names or bib numbers into these bins for retrieval at the rest stations during the event. You may supply your own bags or use the large drawstring bags provided by the race organizers at no charge. At the rest stations, the individual bags will be removed from the bins and placed on tables close to the team hand off zones and the porta-potties. Typical items solo runners check in include changes of socks, clothing, or shoes along with special fluids and food items. At the rest stations, after taking what they need from their gear bags, solo runners should close the bags and place them in the “PICK UP BINS.” The gear checked items placed in the Pick Up Bins will be delivered to the finish area periodically throughout the day. Items left on the tables will be retrieved after the last solo runner has passed through the station. Gear check bags will be delivered to the Gear Check Tent on the north side of the Party Tent throughout the afternoon.

COURSE SUPPORT (FLUIDS/FOOD)

There will be NINE rest stations along the course route providing support to the competitors. See Course/Leg Descriptions on this website for a breakdown of the locations. All participants, including solo runners, are responsible for supporting themselves BETWEEN rest stations. Every rest station will offer cups, water, Gatorade, Clif bars, oranges, bagels and bananas. At rest stations 3-9, there will be black buckets on the food tables marked “For Solo Runners Only” containing Clif Bars for the solo runners. This is to ensure that the relay runners do not pillage all the food without regard for the solo runners, a common occurrence in past years. Exchange #5 (mile 28) at Villagio’s Italian Restaurant in Juddville will offer the “Half Way Buffet” with hot soup, PB&J sandwiches and snacks in addition to the fruit and Clif Bars.

TO CLARIFY: The on course food and beverage will be set up in a SELF-SERVE format. There will be no water station teams handing out cups of water or Gatorade. This is an ultra, folks, not a marathon.

ROAD SURFACE

The entire Fall 50 course route is paved asphalt. There are no trails or gravel roads on this route. The portions of the course along the highway offer flat gravel shoulders to run on while most of the back roads do not.

ROAD CLOSURES

NONE! The course IS NOT closed to motor vehicles. Be alert to the possible presence of motorists throughout the entire course.

COURSE SIGNAGE

Red Fall 50 signs will be located at every turn and mile marker along the entire course. Always run on whichever side of the road the course signs are located on. In most cases, you will be running against the motor vehicle traffic along busier stretches of roadway.

AWARDS

The age breakdown for solo runner awards will include Open (under 40 years of age), Masters (age 40-49) and Supermasters (age 50 & over). Solo runner awards will be given to the top three men and top three women in the Open, Masters and Supermasters divisions. Awards consist of oversized gold Fall 50 medals on a sewn (Olympic style) ribbon. We used to distribute belt buckles but past award winners told us they they did not plan to wear them and would prefer large medals that they could frame.
